What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Part Time Kitchen Staff position at BBSI West Valley?
Responsibilities
At the direction of the Kitchen Manager, the Kitchen Staff will assist in the operation of kitchen duties, including assisting with food planning and preparation, ensuring proper food handling practices, food and kitchen clean-up, and maintaining safe and sanitary conditions of the facilities and equipment.
- Varying shifts during resource center meal service; weekends required
- Ensures meals are served at scheduled times each day
- Collaborates with Volunteer Coordinator to provide clear direction of food services and the general overall operation of the kitchen with kitchen volunteers, and teaches safe food handling practices
- Assists kitchen volunteers with duties related to the kitchen and maintaining cleanliness standards when performing food-related tasks; teaches safe food handling practices such as appropriate clothing and footwear, hairnets, gloves, and aprons
- Maintains and organizes kitchen, food storage locations, and equipment to ensure proper working order and compliance with Health Department standards
- Assists the Kitchen Manager in overseeing food storage and food handling practices to maintain kitchen and food service areas according to safe food handling regulations
- Develops positive relationships with volunteers, guests, and staff
- Acts as a member of a cohesive team
- Cleans and maintains floor drains weekly
Qualifications
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations
- Ability to contribute to an inclusive and respectful workplace that values diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to set and maintain healthy professional boundaries using Trauma-Informed Care principles

- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current Food Handler Permit or willingness to obtain one within one month of hire
Physical and Equipment Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for two or more hours at a time
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment
- Casual dress required; must be clean and presentable. Closed-toe, non-slip shoes required.
