The Lead Automotive Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of vehicles to ensure optimal safety, reliability, and performance. In addition to performing advanced technical work, this role provides day-to-day leadership within the shop, supports workflow coordination, and serves as a technical resource for other technicians. The Lead Technician helps ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with quality standards.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPerform routine maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and tune-ups.Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic system malfunctions using advanced diagnostic tools and equipment.Conduct 90-day BIT inspections and Annual DOT inspections as required.Oversee daily shop workflow and help prioritize repair orders to meet deadlines.Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technicians and apprentices.Review completed work to ensure accuracy, safety compliance, and quality standards are met.Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and documentation of work performed.Ensure tools and shop equipment are properly maintained, clean, and safe to use.Support inventory tracking and communicate parts or equipment needs to management.Follow and reinforce all OSHA, DOT, and company safety procedures, including proper use of PPE.QUALIFICATIONSAdvanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle systems.Strong working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and troubleshooting methods.Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience in a shop environment preferred.Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment safely and efficiently.Willingness to observe and enforce all safety precautions.Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction and feedback.Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Completion of a vocational training program, certification, or apprenticeship preferred.Minimum of 4–5 years of experience as an automotive technician or mechanic preferred.Prior lead or supervisory experience in a shop setting preferred.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Company DescriptionBBSI provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.California applicants: to see how we protect your data, visit our website at https://www.bbsi.com/privacy-notice-california-applicants.
