Job Title: Brake Operator
Location: San Jose
Position Overview
Responsible for advanced brake machine operations, including setup, production, and inspection of complex sheet metal parts. Duties include training, process improvement, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. Collaborates with Engineering and supervisors to optimize production.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation and Setup:
- Set up and operate advanced brake machines (Amada NC9-EX, LD brakes, power notcher, roller).
- Develop special tooling and safely perform setups on proven jobs according to standards.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Set-Up personnel, and other Brake Operators to ensure full understanding of job requirements.
- Verify tool setups, inspect manufacturing drawings, and ensure correct revision levels, notes, tolerances, and dimensions.
- Ensure complete and accurate documentation for all jobs, reporting issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Monitor cycle times, calculate PPH, and notify supervisors of discrepancies or required changes.
Quality and Inspection:
- Maintain customer and MASS quality standards through detailed inspections, including first part, in-process, and last-part checks.
- Complete and update Brake Inspection Sheets and ensure QA approval.
- Address defective parts, ensuring proper communication and resolution with leadership.
Training and Process Improvement:
- Train operators on forming processes, machine safety, quality standards, and productivity best practices.
- Create training curricula and lean processes to reduce safety risks, defects, and productivity challenges.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) meetings and contribute to process optimization.
General Duties:
- Adhere to all company and departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following 6S principles.
- Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Accurately use EPICOR for clocking in/out, job tracking, labor entries, and count updates.
- Provide clear communication to the next operator regarding safety, quality, and productivity requirements.
- Report cost-saving suggestions for safety, quality, and efficiency to supervisors.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of brake machine operation.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of sheet metal principles, blueprint reading, shop math (e.g., K-factor), and inspection tools.
- Proficiency in EPICOR and maintaining accurate records.
- Strong problem-solving skills for immediate and long-term solutions.
- Flexible and adaptable to work across various departments and shifts.
Working Conditions
- Environment: Fast-paced, climate-controlled facility with noise and metal dust; PPE required.
- Physical Requirements: Occasionally lift over 50 lbs.
Shifts:
- First Shift: 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM (Mon-Fri)
- Second Shift: 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM (Mon-Fri)
