Position Summary
The Production Expeditor is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and coordinating work orders, materials, and tooling across Bayside’s Machine (B1) and Fabrication (B2) facilities. This role ensures jobs flow smoothly between departments, materials arrive on time, and all production priorities align with the company’s scheduling and delivery goals. The Expeditor works closely with the Operations Scheduler, Purchasing, and Shop Supervisors to identify bottlenecks, resolve issues, and keep projects moving efficiently from start to shipment.
Key Responsibilities
Work Order & Shop Flow Management
- Review the daily and weekly production schedule and identify jobs that are behind schedule, at risk, or flagged as high priority.
- Track the movement of work orders across both shops (B1 ↔ B2) and verify progress in Global Shop Solutions (GSS).
- Coordinate with leads to ensure routers are followed, parts are moved promptly, and WIP locations are accurate.
- Return incomplete or incorrect work orders to the appropriate department for correction (e.g., material or router issues).
- Update the Scheduler on job status changes, material delays, or shop capacity issues.
Material & Tooling Coordination
- Confirm that materials and tooling are available and staged for upcoming jobs.
- Assist with retrieving materials, tooling, or fixtures between B1 and B2.
- Monitor bin inventories and notify the Scheduler or Purchasing when stock is low or missing.
- Support the saw department with sorting and staging materials according to production priorities.
Vendor & Purchasing Support
- Follow up with vendors for purchase order ETAs, tracking information, and delivery updates.
- Assist with coordinating Outside Process POs (drop-offs, pickups, and return dates).
- Verify received materials match packing lists and communicate discrepancies.
- Document and communicate any vendor delays or shortages to the Scheduler and Operations Manager.
Production Communication & Accountability
- Communicate daily with the Scheduler, Purchasing, and department leads to report progress and issues.
- Ensure all departments are informed of revised priorities, hot jobs, or schedule adjustments.
- Maintain accurate and timely notes in GSS for work order status updates.
- Support internal quality and efficiency goals by identifying repeat delays or process gaps.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in manufacturing, production coordination, or expediting (machine/fab environment preferred).
- Familiarity with Global Shop Solutions (GSS) or similar ERP software.
- Understanding of machining, fabrication, and material flow processes.
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Ability to multitask and adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Performance Metrics
- On-Time Delivery (OTD) support.
- Accuracy of job movement and WIP tracking.
- Responsiveness to material and tooling shortages.
- Communication effectiveness between departments.
Work Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday (6:00 AM–2:00 PM or 7:00 AM–3:00 PM).
Occasional flexibility may be required for end-of-shift follow-ups or Intershop coordination.
Summary of the Role’s Scope
This position serves as the hands-on link between scheduling, purchasing, and production. The Production Expeditor ensures every work order moves on time, materials are available, and both shops stay aligned with delivery expectations. Success in this role means minimal downtime, smooth communication, and a constant forward flow of work through Bayside’s operations
