Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Receptionist/Front Office to join our optometric team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of medical administrative procedures, and the ability to provide exceptional patient service. The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical billing, insurance verification, and possess a comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and coding standards.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and manage multi-line phone systems with professionalism and courtesy, ensuring excellent customer service at all times.
- Schedule appointments accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems, while coordinating care plans and follow-up visits.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and other third-party payers, ensuring proper documentation review for billing accuracy.
- Handle medical billing and collections efficiently by processing payments, submitting claims, and following up on unpaid accounts in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain organized medical records by filing documents correctly, managing electronic files in systems, and ensuring the confidentiality of health information.
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting patient information, updating records, and explaining clinic policies clearly.
- Support office management tasks such as inventory management of office supplies, managing appointment schedules, and maintaining a clean and organized front desk environment.
- Utilize computer skills to operate various office software, including Microsoft Office Suite, for documentation and correspondence purposes.
- Uphold HIPAA standards by safeguarding patient privacy during all interactions and documentation processes.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting is required; clinic or dental office experience is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms.
- Experience with medical administrative support tasks such as appointment scheduling, patient intake, filing, and documentation review.
- Bilingual abilities are considered an asset to better serve diverse patient populations.
- Excellent organizational skills combined with clerical experience in handling multi-line phones, typing (including 10 key), filing systems, and office management tasks.
