Summary

The Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is seeking an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. Molecular Pathologist to join the Division of Genomic Medicine as a full-time member of the faculty. The successful candidate will have experience in the practice of molecular genomic pathology and play a key role in implementation of genomic testing services in patient care. The Division of Genomic Medicine offers testing services encompassing next generation sequencing genomic panels, cytogenomic microarrays, real-time PCR, as well as FISH and cytogenetics services in oncology and constitutional disorders. Ongoing expansions include DNA methylation classifiers for tumors, whole genome sequencing for constitutional disorders, and digital PCR-based applications. Opportunities are available to develop nanopore sequencing and other emerging platforms.


The faculty member will be joining an experienced team with the opportunity to contribute to the clinical, academic, and research missions of our department while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, pathologists, scientists, and genetic counselors. The successful candidate will hold an appointment as Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

Job Duties

  • Provide clinical sign-out and interpretation of molecular and genomic testing results in a CAP/CLIA-certified diagnostic laboratory, including next-generation sequencing DNA and RNA panels, copy number profiling cytogenomic arrays and targeted molecular testing for oncology and constitutional disorders.
  • Partner with laboratory leadership and faculty in the development, validation, and implementation of precision medicine testing and integration of established and emerging genomic testing modalities into patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborate with oncologists, geneticists, and other clinicians to guide patient care.
  • Participate in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and laboratory staff as an active faculty member in the ACGME-certified Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship and Pathology Residency programs at BCM.
  • Engage in academic scholarship and/or clinical research with opportunities for collaborative investigation and academic advancement.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, quality control, and continuous improvement initiatives for genetic and genomic laboratory services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. (or equivalent) with board certification/eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Texas.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and interest in precision oncology test development.
  • Commitment to academic medicine, teaching, and collaborative clinical care.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, regulatory requirements, and quality management preferred
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.


This position will carry a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine. Joint appointments in other basic science or clinical departments are available for individuals with broader academic interests. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
