Reports to: Bayfield Intermediate School Principal

Salary: $52,028- $65,028/ year

OVERVIEW

Bayfield Intermediate School is seeking a full-time Counselor to work with our Intermediate (Grades 3-5) School team. It is our mission to provide a safe and cooperative learning environment. JOB SUMMARY

Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, personal/social development and career development for all students.

QUALIFICATION

• Currently hold or eligible for a Colorado Special Services Providers License with appropriate endorsement (or CDE licensure application in process).
• Preference given to Master's Degree in Counseling/School Counseling or enrolled in a program.
• Completed and submitted BSD on-line application.
• Inspire and work collaboratively with staff members and the community.
• Commit to the district vision of Each Student, Each Day: Wolverine Way.
• Maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
• Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.

• Work with students individually, in small groups and in whole class groups to increase social emotional competencies.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate social emotional skills into their curriculum.
• Create activities to ensure the practice of social emotional skills.
• Serve as an advocate for students with staff, administration, and parents.
• Implement programs and activities designed to enhance our school values of respect, responsibility, safety, and kindness.
• Develop community partnerships and coordinate community resources and participation.
• Plan and implement services that support student social emotional wellbeing.
• Provide adaptive services based upon identified unique characteristics of students.
• Assess school culture and climate and implement programming that ensures an inviting, respectful, supportive, and inclusive school environment.
• Maintain clear and constructive lines of communication with students, families, and other significant adults and/or professionals to build collaborative partnerships.
• Respond to student mental health crises and needs by offering education, prevention and access to crisis/short term counseling. Make referrals to community resources as necessary.
• Work with community resources to support student mental health needs.
• Participate in professional development for continuous learning.
• Work with families in a partnership role.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and community.
• Know and understand ASCA standards and CASEL competencies.
• Follow state legal requirements and District and building policies and procedures.
• Willingness to participate in committees and extracurricular clubs and activities
• Perform any other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

• Excellent oral and written communication skills; willingness to communicate frequently with families regarding school curriculum and student progress.
• Knowledge of and deep belief in inclusion in the general education classroom for all students, including those on an IEP, 504 and/or learning English.
• Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn and grow.

SALARY

Per the Bayfield School District Elementary Counselor salary schedule based on education and years of experience.
