Welder 2 or 3
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for welding and fabricating metal components used in heavy equipment for foundation drilling applications. This role includes interpreting blueprints, maintaining welding equipment, and ensuring quality standards. Higher-grade levels involve advanced fabrication tasks, CNC programming, and leadership responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
GRADE 1
- Welds fabricated materials in compliance with specifications.
- Maintains welding equipment in safe operating order; notify others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.
- Maintains a neat, clean, and organized work area.
- Refers to blueprints or diagrams and can read and comprehend simple design drawings.
- Willing to help in other departments if needed under supervisor's permission.
- Available to work all shifts.
- May occasionally need to travel.
- Must be 18 years old.
- Must adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
GRADE 2
- Performs all functions and duties of Welder/Fabricator 1 and:
- Completely fabricates and welds parts for all equipment lines and kanban parts in compliance with specifications.
- Fabricate Kelly Bar sets with little to no guidance.
- Capable of building and welding in any position.
- Requires very little guidance to perform job duties.
- Program CNC welding equipment; detect and correct malfunctions.
- Capable of working with Engineers to resolve design and build issues.
- Is competent in operating all forklifts as well as the overhead cranes.
- Will help train Grade 1 Welder/Fabricators.
GRADE 3
- Performs all functions and duties of Welder/Fabricator 1 and 2 and:
- Capable of operating saw, oxy fuel for emergency jobs.
- Capable of using flux core, metal core, and hard wire welding procedures, is competent with an oxy/acetylene torch System and set up and can weld aluminum.
- Look up build related issues in our ERP system including looking up PO's, routings, closing jobs, etc.
- Coordinates with other Departments to maintain the schedule.
- Travel for service and complete repairs with little to no guidance.
- Lines up projects and job tasks for other Fab Department employees.
- Will help train Grade 1 and 2 Welder/Fabricators

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent. May be able to substitute relevant, practical experience in lieu of education
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Possesses a working knowledge of shop math.
- Possesses a demonstrated knowledge of metals and measuring tools with knowledge or background in steel fabrication.
- Ability to operate hand tools and power tools related to welding and fabrication.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and learn quickly; self-starter/self-motivated individual.
- Has experience with Flux Core, metal core, and Hard Wire Welding Procedures in any and all positions and is competent with an Oxy/Acyt., Plasma Torch System , Carbon Arc systems and set-up.
- Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Has the ability to work with Aluminum.
- Has the ability to look up prints, build times, components, or light job-related issues in the MRP
- Has the ability back up Fabrication Department Lead when absent.
- May occasionally travel for service to fix any fab related issue.
- Has good communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to: see and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions; audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals; and speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Must have full range of body movement.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must maintain confidence and balance while working on ladders up to 12 feet tall.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, equipment, hot materials, moderate to extreme noise, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Must agree to wear any and all necessary personal protective equipment to include:
- Eye protection required to reduce risk of injury.
- Approved footwear required.
- Ear protection is required.
- Other PPE as necessary to perform duties
