Facilities Technician – Bay Shellfish Company
Location: Terra Ceia Island, FL
Job Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $60,000-$70,000 annually, commensurate based on experience
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-4PM
Job Summary
We are seeking a Facilities Technician to support year-round operations at our shellfish hatchery. Bay Shellfish Co. is a year-round producer of clams, oysters and scallops for commercial aquaculture, research, and restoration. We have operated for 30 years and are located in the beautiful Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve just below St. Petersburg, Florida.
Position Description
This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing hatchery and nursery equipment, marine infrastructure, and shore-side facilities to ensure safe and efficient daily operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, reliable, attention-to-detail, and comfortable working in an outdoor, marine environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements on equipment, including pumps, upwellers, graders, silos, and plumbing.
- Maintain docks, floats, work platforms, and shore-side facilities.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural issues.
- Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
- Maintain boats, farm vehicles, and golf carts.
- Assist with installation and modification of farm equipment and infrastructure.
- Keep maintenance records and maintain an organized work area.
- Support farm operations as needed, including occasional assistance with hatchery and nursery operations.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and biosecurity protocols.
Qualifications
- Experience in maintenance, mechanics, marine operations, agriculture, or a related field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude; experience with carpentry and electrical/plumbing systems preferred.
- Experience using power tools such as drills, chop saws, table saws, grinders, and augers.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to cooperatively work with a small team and independently.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Welding, boating, or small engine experience preferred.
