Overall Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director/ and in collaboration with other clinic providers, APP lead will provide primary health care services at BACH to clinic patients. In addition to clinical duties, the APP Lead plays a key leadership role in onboarding, training, mentoring, and supporting newly hired APPs (NPs/PAs). This position will also assist with quality improvement (QI) initiatives, support clinic operational efficiency, and serve as a role model and resource to other APPs.
Essential Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of Clinical Director/Medical Director and CMO, APP lead will perform a variety of complex, professional, analytical, and confidential patient care and administrative tasks.
Duties include:
- Participate in a comprehensive quality improvement process which includes routine auditing of medical records to ensure quality clinical care is maintained and that all clinic policies, procedures and protocols are being followed by clinic providers.
- Support and contribute to efforts to maintain and improve patient satisfaction in all aspects of health care delivery.
- Assist the Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director/Clinic Directors and Director of Quality with QI projects to improve clinical quality metrics at BACH.
- Serve as the primary point of support for onboarding and training newly hired APPs, including clinical workflows, documentation standards, productivity expectations, and clinic protocols
- Provide mentorship and ongoing coaching to APP staff to support clinical excellence, professionalism, and productivity.
- Act as a role model for APP staff by demonstrating strong clinical judgment, timely documentation, teamwork, and professional behavior.
- Support the Clinical/Medical Directors during their admin time and use critical thinking in solving clinic and provider related issues and concerns
- Assist in the training and skill development of existing APP Providers to improve provider productivity, quality and slot utilization.
- Take the lead or participate in the development, periodic review, and updating of Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Standardized Procedures.
- Provide primary healthcare services to BACH patients of all ages consistent with scope of practice laws and Protocols and Standardized Procedures, including taking comprehensive health history, performing physical examination, completing medical work-up, performing or ordering appropriate lab, x-ray, and other tests, prescribing, and implementing appropriate therapy according to standard practice.
- Obtain appropriate consults with physicians when problems presented are outside the scope of practice or when unfamiliar with a particular aspect of the patient’s care.
- Administer injections, immunizations and oral medications; suture wounds, prescribe, administer and dispense drugs in accordance with federal and state laws and standards of practice.
- Provide assistance and training to clinic RNs/LVNs and MA and work closely with Clinic Manager and Supervisors for care team efficiency.
- Maintain productivity standards while maintaining high quality medical care to their own patient panel.
- Be available to answer questions/provide consultation to all clinic staff during clinic hours, including triaging telephone calls and making referrals.
- Complete legible and legally defensible medical records in a timely manner on a daily basis, including completing accurate and timely chart completion. Ensure all clinic providers are in compliance with timely encounter note completion
- Attend continuing education programs and provide evidence of necessary education completion to upgrade skills and maintain licensing requirements.
- Establish and maintain good relationships within the healthcare community and with internal and external stakeholders
- Attend and participate in staff and leadership meetings as required or requested.
- Participate in grant related and other projects as requested.
- Collaborate with other department directors to help meet the 3 year strategic plan goals and objectives of BACH.
- Work closely with Compliance team to help resolve complaints and grievances.
- Analyze, Interpret and Prepare reports to present at internal and external meetings
Participate in conferences and other activities such as health topic speaking engagements, agency-sponsored health fairs, poster presentations, research articles and so forth.
Safety:
- Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.
- Follow all safety procedures and report or resolve unsafe conditions to ensure an injury-free work environment.
- Use appropriate ergonomic measures to reduce risk of work-related injuries.
- Adhere to infection control procedures in the clinic, including blood borne pathogen protocols.
Secondary Responsibilities:

- Attend webinars, workshops, training and/or meetings as requested by CMO
- Perform special project research and data collection activities as requested by CMO
- Coordinate and participate in BACH events and community engagement activities.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of recent experience in a busy outpatient primary care practice serving multigenerational, multicultural patients is required;
- Experience in a non-profit community clinic setting is preferred.
- Speaking and understanding Spanish or second language is desirable.
Education and Licensing Requirements:
- Current, valid, unsuspended State of California Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license.
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid DEA license

Work Conditions:
- Travel locally to visit other sites; may require a day or overnight trip to attend events; workload may be demanding at times; require professionalism and confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
This position requires:
- Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical, clinical and administrative office environment, with some bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for tasks involving standard office equipment and computer keyboard, including repetitive movements, such as typing.
- Traveling to work sites, including some exposure to outside elements.
- Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations, requiring adherence to extensive safety precautions and possibly the use of protective equipment.
