Baxley Maniscalco is a fast-growing Alabama law firm seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Family Law Paralegal to join our family law division. This role supports a high-performing attorney in handling contested and uncontested family law cases throughout East Alabama.


The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and able to manage a busy caseload with compassion and professionalism. You’ll play a vital role in our mission of delivering full justice for every client through exceptional service, efficiency, and excellence.


About the Role


You’ll work directly with a family law attorney managing divorce, custody, adoption, modification, and related domestic relations matters in Calhoun, Cleburne, and surrounding counties.


You’ll be responsible for preparing pleadings, discovery, and trial materials, communicating with clients and courts, and ensuring every case moves forward strategically and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare, draft, and file family law pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and subpoenas.
  • Maintain and organize digital case files and correspondence within Clio Manage and our firm file server.
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff regarding case updates and scheduling.
  • Monitor case deadlines and proactively move matters forward through litigation milestones.
  • Summarize discovery, compile exhibits, and prepare case binders for hearings and trials.
  • Assist with client intakes, document requests, and evidence collection.
  • Track and record billable time accurately.
  • Support attorney in preparing for mediations, depositions, and court appearances.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and documentation of firm procedures.


Skills & Competencies


  • Strong working knowledge of Alabama family law procedures and court filing requirements.
  • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency with Clio Manage/Grow, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to handle 35–45 active contested matters efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Empathetic and professional client communication style.
  • Strong initiative, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to anticipate attorney needs and work collaboratively under deadlines.


Required Qualifications


  • 3 years of family law paralegal experience in Alabama.
  • Associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or paralegal certification from an accredited program.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contested divorce and custody cases.
  • Ability to draft pleadings and discovery independently with attorney review.
  • Familiarity with electronic filing systems and local court procedures.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Pay range: $45,000 – $50,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
  • Performance-based, KPI driven bonus structure worth additional 5% of base salary, paid quarterly.
  • 401(k) with 4% firm contribution match.
