The Senior STEM Education Specialist supports the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of STEM education and workforce development initiatives aligned with organizational mission and workforce priorities. This role operates as part of a cross-functional team, collaborating across internal organizations to advance integrated STEM education and outreach efforts that strengthen the workforce pipeline.

This position reports to the Director of STEM Education and serves as a key liaison between Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and the BEA STEM Institute at the College of Eastern Idaho. The role also represents INL in the community and across the state, engaging with partners to promote STEM opportunities and support education and workforce development objectives.

The position requires expertise in STEM education, strong project management skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. The Senior Specialist supports outreach delivery, partnership engagement, and program evaluation activities to ensure measurable impact and continuous improvement, including designing and delivering high-quality professional development for educators.

You will work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off but will need to be flexible and available during off hours as the position requires.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support delivery of STEM education and outreach activities
  • Serve as a primary liaison between INL and the BEA STEM Institute at the College of Eastern Idaho, ensuring alignment and effective collaboration
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to support integration of STEM education efforts across initiatives
  • Design and deliver high-quality professional development for K-12 educators
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, higher education institutions, and community organizations
  • Support development of curriculum, workshops, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Represent INL in community and statewide engagements; develop and maintain strategic partnerships
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate outreach and education effectiveness
  • Support workforce development initiatives aligned with industry needs
  • Contribute to reporting and strategic planning activities
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related discipline and 5 years of relevant experience in education, education leadership, or STEM outreach OR a Master's degree and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing and delivering high-quality professional development for educators
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or coordinating education or workforce development initiatives
  • Experience engaging with K-12 and/or higher education institutions and community partners
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)

Preferred Experience:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or higher) in Education or a related discipline
  • Experience in STEM education, workforce development, or informal education programs
  • Experience working with national laboratories, government agencies, or public-private partnerships
  • Familiarity with Idaho's education landscape and workforce needs
  • Experience supporting program evaluation, including data collection and analysis
  • Experience developing curriculum, workshops, or experiential learning opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships across education, industry, and community organizations
  • Experience representing an organization in community or statewide engagements

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is Level 3-Salary grade 430 ($66,504-$136,356). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
