Job Summary:

The BROC Foundation Athletic Trainer provides on-site prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, reconditioning, return-to-play, and emergency care for patients within the outreach setting while working under the direction of a supervising physician and in collaboration with organizational administrative staff, coaches, and healthcare team members. The BROC Foundation Athletic Trainer also maintains medical documentation, coordinates referrals, and promotes evidence-based injury prevention and wellness promotion for the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implement injury and illness prevention and wellness promotion for athletes.
  • Performs clinical examination, assessment, and diagnosis of athletic injuries and medical conditions.
  • Provides immediate and emergency care for injuries and illnesses occurring during athletic participation such as during practices, games, and other community events.
  • Determine the need for physician referral and follow up care, support diagnostic reasoning and medical decision-making.
  • Provide education to athletes, caregivers, coaches, and other stakeholders regarding athletic injuries and care.
  • Implements therapeutic interventions, including treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning programs to support safe return to participation and assisting with academic accommodations as needed.
  • Communicate athlete progress, treatment plans, referrals, and follow-up needs with physicians, physical therapists, coaches, families, and other members of the care team.
  • Evaluate readiness for participation and provide return to play clearances in accordance with organization’s policies and procedures and physician direction.
  • Demonstrates competency in healthcare administration and professional responsibility, including adherence to policies, documentation standards, and ethical practice.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily treatment logs, injury reports, and related medical records.
  • Maintain and manage athletic training equipment, supplies, and treatment areas to ensure a safe, clean, and organized environment consistent with safety standards.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist with development and implementation for organization’s emergency action plan.
  • Assist with coaching education initiatives, including First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications, emergency action plan training, injury prevention, and treatment of relevant medical conditions.
  • Maintain professional relationships with sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, community partners, organization administration, coaches, parents, and other stakeholders.

  • Maintains a neat, organized, and safe work environment and promptly report safety concerns to the supervisors or Risk Management/Safety Officer.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and works independently and confidently with minimal supervision, efficiently managing time and resources while anticipating seasonal, programmatic, and organizational needs.
  • Pursues professional development through continuing education, individual development plans, mentoring opportunities, and professional memberships.
  • Demonstrates strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Communicates professionally and promptly with supervisors regarding challenges, concerns, or issues related to job responsibilities.
  • Always represents the BROC Foundation and community partners in a professional manner and demonstrates the ability to interact positively with physicians, clinical staff, physical therapists, community partners, athletes, families, and other stakeholders to support the mission and operations of the BROC Foundation.
  • Maintain required professional licensure, certifications, and applicable professional memberships in good standing.
  • Practice in accordance with standing orders and protocols established by the supervising physician, BROC Foundation and organization’s policies and procedures, including protection of patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Adheres to the BROC Compliance Plan and applicable policies by following documentation guidelines, participating in compliance education, and reporting any concerns related to compliance or regulatory standards.
  • Practice in accordance with the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Practice Act, and applicable professional standards, including the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) Standards of Professional Practice and the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Code of Ethics.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Athletic Training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited program.
  • Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).
  • Currently licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Louisiana or eligible to obtain a licensure prior to start date.
  • American Heart Association Provider (BLS) certification, which includes CPR and AED, or the equivalent through American Red Cross.
  • Preferred prior athletic training experience.
  • Preferred American Heart Association Instructor for BLS and Heartsaver courses.
  • Reliable transportation to work daily.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as required by program and event needs.
  • Physical requirements include: Ability to lift, move or exert force up to 20lbs constantly, 50lbs regularly, and 100lbs occasionally; safely transfer patients and treatment supplies; preform tasks requiring upper body strength and manual dexterity for treatment modalities and equipment operation; and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including temperatures over 100°F, sub-freezing temperatures, and heavy rain.
