GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and financial reporting duties across the organization, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, journal entries, and support for departmental and corporate reporting. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for accounting functions related to Food & Beverage operations, ensuring accurate reconciliation between point-of-sale, reporting, and accounting systems.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reconciliation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word; familiarity with Great Plains accounting and reporting system preferred. Ability to learn and support operational systems, such as point-of-sale and reporting platforms. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. High level of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Positive attitude and strong problem-solving abilities.
Acceptable Training And Experience
A four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience; or a two (2) year degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of four (4) years of accounting experience. Experience in hospitality, food & beverage, or gaming industry a plus, but not required.
Must be approved for and maintain a valid Video Lottery Gaming Non-Key Employee license and racing license issued by the New York State Gaming Commission.
Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift or move up to 15 pounds at a time, move files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary. Effective communication is required. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare and reconcile daily revenue and cash deposit activity, ensuring accuracy between the point-of-sale, reporting, and accounting systems.
- Generate and analyze daily and monthly Food & Beverage reports. Assist in the preparation of management reporting and variance analysis.
- Maintain and update menu items, pricing, and promotions within the point-of-sale system, coordinating with IT and department management as needed.
- Reconcile and track promotional programs, gift cards, drink chip logs, and other Food & Beverage-related liabilities.
- Process and track invoices and purchase orders, ensuring appropriate approvals and general ledger coding.
- Calculate and verify employee tip reports for payroll processing.
- Prepare and post journal entries; assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Assist in the preparation and output of the general ledger, trial balance, and financial statements.
- Support and provide backup coverage for Accounts Payable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Revenue Accounting, and other Finance functions.
- Assist in the collection and input of purse authorization forms, verification of race results, and payment of purses as assigned.
- Participate in internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and account analyses.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
