LOCATION: Bastrop High School (Title I School) 402 Highland Avenue Bastrop, Louisiana 71220

 

SUBJECT AREA(S): Mainly ELA & Math (SpEd Resource & Inclusion) 

 

GRADE LEVEL(S): Grades 7-8

 

POSITION OVERVIEW
Morehouse Parish School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education (Resource) Teacher to support students with exceptionalities at Bastrop High School, a Title I campus focused on equity and student growth. The successful candidate will provide targeted instruction in ELA and mathematics, support implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and promote students’ development of self-regulation, executive functioning, and social-emotional skills necessary for academic and personal success. This position requires expertise in behavioral supports, inclusive practices, and compliance with LDOE, BESE, IDEA, and Section 504 requirements.

Salary: In accordance with the MPSD Teacher Pay Scale and applicable state guidelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specially designed instruction aligned to Louisiana Student Standards tailored to individual student needs
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with IDEA and Louisiana regulations
  • Deliver small-group and individualized intervention in literacy, mathematics, and study skills
  • Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions aligned with PBIS, FBA, and BIP practices
  • Support development of self-regulation, executive functioning, and organizational skills
  • Teach and reinforce social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies
  • Use progress monitoring and data analysis to track academic and behavioral growth
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and inclusion support
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and maintain compliant documentation
  • Establish a structured, supportive environment aligned with PBIS and trauma-informed practices
  • Engage and communicate effectively with families and stakeholders
  • Participate in PLCs and ongoing professional development
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, IDEA, Section 504, and district policies

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Special Education or eligibility through an LDOE-approved pathway
  • Knowledge of Louisiana Student Standards and specially designed instruction
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and IEP compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated skills in differentiation, behavior management, and data-driven instruction
  • Ability to support self-regulation, coping strategies, and positive behavior skills
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success
  • Candidates enrolled in an approved Teacher Preparation Program must provide proof of enrollment, coursework, and Praxis scores (if applicable)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • 1–3 years of experience with students with disabilities
  • Experience implementing BIPs, FBAs, and SEL frameworks
  • Experience supporting executive functioning and study skills
  • Experience in a Title I or high-needs setting
  • Knowledge of Louisiana accountability and SPED procedures
  • Experience with MTSS/RTI and intervention strategies
  • Experience in co-teaching or inclusive classrooms
  • Participation in PLCs or collaborative teams
