Position Summary

The Morehouse Parish School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Self-Contained Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities in a self-contained special education classroom at Bastrop High School. The paraprofessional assists certified teachers in implementing instructional programs, behavioral supports, life skills training, and personal care services designed to help students achieve their IEP goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Support, Student Support, Supervision and Safety, Personal Care Assistance, Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities. Responsibilities include assisting with lessons, providing small-group support, implementing behavior plans, supervising students, maintaining records, assisting with personal care, maintaining confidentiality, attending trainings, and performing assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

· Pass ParaPro Assessment with score of 450 or higher; OR

· Complete at least 48 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university; or
  If the applicant has college credits, he/she should have the following:

 *3 hrs. of English Composition
 *6 hrs. of English/Reading
 *6 hrs. of Mathematics

· Hold an Associate Degree (AA, AS, or AAS).

· Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience working with students with disabilities.

· Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and classroom management.

· Experience providing academic, behavioral, or personal care support.

Physical Requirements

· Stand and walk for extended periods.

· Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

· Assist students with mobility and transfers.

· Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
