Are you detail-oriented, spatially minded, and looking to build a career in the construction and design industry? Owen M. Bastian, Inc. is seeking a motivated Sales Estimator to join our commercial division. In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical precision and sales. You’ll be responsible for analyzing blueprints, calculating material needs, and developing competitive bids. This is an entry-level position designed for someone who wants to learn the business from the ground up, with a clear path toward earning commissions and managing their own commercial flooring projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Project Estimation: Read and analyze architectural drawings/specifications to determine material and labor requirements.
- Site Assessment: Visit project sites throughout PA and NJ (typically within a 2-hour radius) to perform field measurements and assess client needs.
- Technical Take-offs: Utilize RFMS Measure software to create accurate time and material take-offs to support project sales.
- Bid Preparation: Use the RFMS database to build accurate and competitive bid proposals.
- Value Engineering: Collaborate with Sales Support on product selection and identify opportunities to offer cost-effective alternatives for a competitive advantage.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all material and labor quantities are 100% accurate before project commencement.
- Tech-Savvy: Strong proficiency in Windows-based programs; ability to quickly learn specialized industry software (RFMS).
- Mathematical Mindset: Excellent math skills are essential for calculating area, waste, and pricing.
- Detail Obsessed: A high level of organization and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously without losing accuracy.
- Strong Communicator: Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with the office team and warehouse staff.
- Blueprint Literacy: Experience reading blueprints is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
