This is a continuous examination process and may close at any time, with little or no notice. An application review may occur at any time and qualified candidates who have submitted applications will be invited to participate in the testing process. Qualified applicants submitting applications after the review date will be considered in the next examination process. This list will be utilized to fill any vacancies that may occur during the one year life of the Eligibility List, which may include temporary positions. The list generated from this recruitment will be used to fill both substitute and permanent vacancies in the District.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides support to a Child Development classroom by assisting with the preparation and delivery of instructional activities, observing and recording developmental indicators, addressing children's areas of need through the use of intentional developmentally appropriate strategies and addressing the health and safety of the children.

This classification is distinguished from the Child Development Assistant as the Child Development - Head Start involves frequent monitoring by outside agencies and working collaboratively with all Head Start service areas to maintain program compliance.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement to develop children's school readiness skills such as: communication/literacy and cognitive skills, including building self-esteem and self-help skills.

Reads, sings, and works with children during various indoor and outdoor activities.

Maintains clean and safe environment by wiping down tables, sweeping floors and outdoor playground, washing and sanitizing dishes, and disposing of trash.

Provides for the care and supervision (as per program procedure) of all children at all times while under their care.

Implements developmentally appropriate instructional activities by working with children on different learning activities inclusive of assisting children with conflict resolution and redirection skills and strategies.

Supervises students to ensure safety during play by organizing various indoor/outdoor activities that encourage positive peer relations and safe interactions with other students.

Provides health and safety maintenance by assisting students with toileting, diapering, washing hands, brushing teeth, tying shoes and properly wearing backpacks and jackets.

Assists with meals by arranging and serving pre-prepared food at appropriate temperatures and in appropriate serving portions according to direction, monitoring and assisting children during meal times (as per CACFP procedures) and helping children during meal set up and clean up.

Collects and tracks information, including attendance, sign-in sheets, meal counts, and student head counts as per program procedure.

Supervises children when teacher must temporarily leave classroom, which may include basic instructional activities.

Assists Teacher in monitoring, evaluating and assessing the progress and developmental levels of children through observation and basic documentation.

Performs clerical duties, such as answering phones, requesting and acquiring supplies from the Child Development Office and taking supplies or messages to and from multiple classrooms.

Performs other related duties as required.EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) months experience either in paid or volunteer status, which indicates your ability to work with children from ages eighteen (18) months to five (5) years in an organized setting.

EDUCATION:
Completion of twelve (12) postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in the core early childhood education or child development courses.

Be currently enrolled in an accredited institution leading to an Associate Degree (AA/AS) or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a Child Development Associate teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Valid Pediatric First-Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certificates are required by the first day of work and must be maintained during employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Level 2: Moderate
Positions in this physical level may require the following physical demands:
Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time; lift, carry, move, transfer, and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds; manipulate hands and fingers to operate equipment relevant to position requirements; maneuver, carry, push, or pull job equipment assigned to the position, such as lifting, positioning, moving and transferring objects or students from one location to another; reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally; bend at the waist, kneel, squat stoop, crouch and run; see to monitor work environment and accomplish assigned tasks; hear and speak clearly to exchange information.

SCREENING PROCESS

2 - Applications will be screened to select the most qualified candidates. 

The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of a(n): application screening, initial qualifications screening, documentation/certification screening, and supplemental application screening. The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written knowledge test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on an eligibility list.

EXAM PROTESTS

Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Personnel Director no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and shall include supporting documentation or references. Protests must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. Protests should NOT be based on receiving unexpected results. We cannot be responsible for lost mail, misdirected mail, or failure of mail to be delivered after it has been entrusted to the U.S. Postal Service.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for one vacancy. Please note that candidates will be removed from the eligibility list for declining the invitation to interview more than three (3) times.

OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT

Official offers of employment are ONLY made by the Bassett Unified School District Personnel Commission office. Offers are subject to satisfactory completion of ALL the pre-employment processing including: successful completion of a drug test, tuberculosis examination, fingerprint clearance by the California Department of Justice, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

ADVANCED STEP PLACEMENT

All new regular classified employees shall be paid in accordance with the salary range established for the class to which assigned. Initial placement will normally be the first step of the salary range. However, a new employee may receive advanced step placement with an approval from the Personnel Commission. Requests for advanced step must be submitted in writing to the Personnel Commission office before the employee's first day of work. 

Approval will be based on the following criteria:

a. Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class.

b. Additional education at the college level when related to the position, beyond the established educational requirements for entry into the class.

c. Evidence of currently receiving a salary greater than the first step of the salary for the classification.
