You’ll collaborate closely with designers, engineers, fabricators, and project managers to transform concepts into fully engineered, buildable solutions while balancing design intent, fabrication efficiency, and client expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Project Ownership

  • Take full ownership of design intent, technical execution, and project deliverables.
  • Balance speed, quality, and adaptability while working in a high-change, high-urgency environment.

Design & Engineering

  • Convert SketchUp/AutoCAD design concepts into manufacturing-ready shop drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Develop 3D models, sub-assembly breakdowns, bills of materials, and CNC cut files.
  • Calculate static and dynamic loads to ensure structural integrity.
  • Design jigs, templates, and fixtures to streamline fabrication.

Project Estimation & Planning

  • Estimate material and hardware needs early in design to track anticipated costs.
  • Assist in defining fabrication methods and creating installation plans.
  • Source materials, components, and specialty hardware for custom builds.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with designers, project engineers, fabricators, purchasing, and vendors to ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Participate in design pass-off reviews to eliminate waste and improve build efficiency.
  • Support teammates when needed and contribute to a collaborative, team-first culture.

Problem-Solving & Quality Assurance

  • Redline shop drawings and troubleshoot issues during fabrication and installation.
  • Proactively identify roadblocks, delays, and design conflicts and communicate solutions early.
  • Maintain a strong sense of urgency while delivering high-quality, precision-driven work.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate’s Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 4 years of mechanical design experience using SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods, processes, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred

  • Experience with sheet metal and weldment design.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical design, controls, and programming.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and permitting requirements.
  • Experience in custom fabrication, specialty installations, and multi-disciplinary projects.

Software Proficiency

  • Required: SolidWorks, nesting software, ERP/project management systems.
  • Preferred: Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD.
