What You’ll Do
Engineer customized control solutions (≈60%):
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project scope to develop robust building automation systems that meet the existing controls design intent.
- Integrate DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, and relays to control and monitor mechanical and ventilation equipment.
- Work to resolve discrepancies between the design intent of the controls system, the capabilities of our DDC controllers, and the configuration of the controlled equipment.
- Collaborate with salesmen and project managers to ensure designs meet project goals, budget constraints, and client requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives in a growing department.
- Prepare detailed HVAC controls submittals, including system diagrams, controller details, points schedules, end-device wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, 3rd party equipment integration, valve and actuator selections, and network risers.
- Coordinate project deliverables, respond to information requests, and assist with project orientation and handoff.
- Ensure accurate records for long-term maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Stay current on building automation industry trends, new technologies, parts obsolescence, and best practices.
- Conduct site visits to assess design requirements, assist with resolving installation issues, and validate our control system’s effectiveness.
- Solicit constructive feedback from the Technicians and Programmers who rely on our department’s output to continually improve the accuracy and clarity of our deliverables.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering, or an Associate’s degree with relevant design experience.
- Strong technical expertise with proficiency in CAD or Visio and the ability to read mechanical and electrical blueprints.
- Hands-on project experience designing and programming control systems for complex projects, with attention to integration, efficiency, and reliability.
- Familiarity with DDC controllers, low voltage control wiring, BAS communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc…), relay logic, and a working knowledge of
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
- Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills to work effectively with project managers, clients, and field technicians.
