Powertrain Test Technician

Hourly pay rate: $35.62

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide support for test vehicle fleets, including updates, maintenance, safety inspections, and installation/removal of instrumentation
  • Coordinate builds, preparation, instrumentation installation, and maintenance of single-cylinder and multi-cylinder engines and after-treatment systems
  • Work with engineers and designers to complete designs, detailed prints, and order prototypes for engine electrical and after-treatment subsystems in support of powertrain system testing in test cells and vehicles
  • Manage all aspects of the prototype procurement process, including creating bills of materials, pulling part numbers, providing required documentation to purchasing, supporting prototype suppliers, and coordinating receiving, invoicing, and storage
  • Coordinate test vehicle fleet activities, including procurement, transfers, and bailments for supplier-led testing
  • Diagnose issues, suggest fixes, and direct rework or updates on prototype test vehicles, engines, after-treatment systems, and prototype parts to minimize downtime and delays
  • Create custom wiring harnesses as required
  • Review engine and vehicle test data to ensure proper functioning of new designs and hardware
  • Perform data collection using calibration tools on defined test plans
  • Handle catalyst aging activities, including submission and tracking of catalyst aging requests

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in engine and vehicle development and testing
  • Diesel engine experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency with personal computer systems, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience using calibration tools such as ATI, ETAS, PTDIAG, or similar
  • Basic automotive mechanical skills, including powertrain electrical and vehicle systems
  • Experience with engine and after-treatment build processes, test cell setup, and troubleshooting
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to support travel and overtime as required
