What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Marketing position at Barsys?
Director of Marketing Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Location: New York, NY
About Barsys
Barsys is a robotics, design, and beverage technology company building the future of the cocktail experience. Our ecosystem spans intelligent hardware (Barsys 360, Coaster 2.0, Wireless Mixer, Shaker Pro, Barsys One), a 5.3M-user connected app with Barbot AI, and the Barsys Ads Network — the first closed-loop retail media platform for the $110B U.S. spirits category. We are headquartered in Midtown New York City.
The Opportunity
Barsys is at a pivotal growth inflection. We need a Director of Marketing who can unify brand storytelling, performance channels, and product marketing into a single, cohesive growth engine. This role owns the full marketing function and reports directly to the CEO.
What You'll Do
- Lead and develop Barsys's full marketing function — brand, performance, content, influencer, lifecycle, and product marketing.
- Own the marketing P&L: allocate budget across channels, track CAC and ROAS, and optimize spend for both brand equity and measurable revenue.
- Build and communicate a clear brand narrative that positions Barsys as the defining platform at the intersection of cocktail culture, consumer hardware, and data-driven media.
- Drive product launch strategy for new hardware SKUs (Barsys One, Barsys One Pro, Shaker Pro), app features, and the Barsys Ads Network.
- Oversee lifecycle and CRM marketing — email, push, in-app — to maximize device activation, app engagement, and retention.
- Partner with the ecommerce, sales, and partnerships teams to align marketing with channel-specific objectives (Amazon, DTC, retail, wholesale).
- Build and manage relationships with key press, media, and cultural tastemakers in the premium home, spirits, and tech verticals.
- Hire, develop, and lead a team of 3–5 marketing professionals as the function scales.
- Establish marketing performance cadences — weekly channel reviews, monthly attribution analysis, and QBR-ready reporting for the CEO.
What We're Looking For
- 7–12 years of marketing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role overseeing multiple marketing functions.
- Strong background in consumer hardware, DTC, or premium lifestyle brands — someone who understands how product and marketing intersect.
- Track record of building brand equity while delivering measurable revenue outcomes (not just brand or performance alone).
- Experience with multi-channel marketing across paid (Meta, Google, Amazon), earned (PR, influencer), and owned (email, app) channels.
- Analytically fluent — you can read a CAC/LTV cohort report, challenge attribution assumptions, and connect marketing spend to revenue outcomes.
- Exceptional communicator and storyteller — you can write a one-pager for investors and a caption for TikTok.
- Thrives in a fast-moving, founder-led environment where speed and quality both matter.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the spirits, beverage, or hospitality category.
- Background in retail media or B2B2C media platform marketing.
- Experience launching a new product category or rebranding a high-growth startup.
- Prior experience working with or managing influencer and affiliate marketing at scale.
