TITLE: Data Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
JOB SUMMARY
The Data Manager plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and effective use of information across the District. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and overseeing all operational and educational databases that support student learning, school operations, and district decision-making.
The Data Manager ensures that all local, state, and federal data collections meet the highest standards of accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. This includes managing student information systems, integrating data from multiple platforms, and supporting staff in the collection, analysis, and reporting of information used to guide instruction, improve operations, and fulfill state and federal reporting requirements.
A key component of the role is building a data-informed culture throughout the District by supporting administrators, teachers, and staff in understanding and applying data to their daily work. The Data Manager serves as a bridge between the technical and instructional sides of the organization and translating data into actionable insights that improve educational outcomes and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong foundation in educational data systems, database management, and information technology. They bring analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to support district priorities. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Masters preferred.
Experience in effective approaches for educational and administrative technology.
Strong technical background in the design and application of technology systems, system integration, and administrative software used in a public school district.
Experience with Aspen Student Information System and Canvas Learning Management System is highly preferred.
An understanding of website technology and database systems is highly desired.
Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered as deemed appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Database Management and Oversight
Control the creation, administration, maintenance, and use of databases to store and retrieve district data and information.
Oversee the implementation and management of all educational and administrative database programs and systems.
Ensure the accuracy, quality, and validity of data contained in all district databases.
Oversee and assist staff in data entry to maintain accurate databases.
Use district databases to make data accessible and useful to teachers, administrators, and staff.
Consult with stakeholders and local and state administrators to outline and define data requirements.
Communicate database modifications and provide technical support for data systems.
Recommend and implement procedures to improve data processing, distribution, flow, collection, and editing.
Foster and implement a culture of data quality across the district.
Professional Development and Reporting
Provide professional development to end users on data quality, student information systems, assessment databases, and other reporting systems used by the District and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE).
Prepare all District, state, and federal technology and data reports.
Stay current with changes and developments in educational technology and database management.
Data Integration and Collaboration
Implement cost-efficient solutions for data transfer, including importing and exporting student data between Aspen and other systems (Follett, Fastbridge, Panorama, etc.).
Represent the District at regional and statewide meetings; serve as a liaison with educational, private sector, and other agencies.
In collaboration with the Director of Technology or designee, collect and analyze student and educator data to inform district programming, instruction, and professional development.
Serve as the District contact for database support and coordinate with software vendors as necessary.
Attend training sessions to develop and maintain expertise in all areas of the Student Information System and other technology department programs.
Participate in cross-training with IT Department members.
Technology and End-User Support
Provide support for the District’s 1:1 technology initiative.
Troubleshoot and resolve basic hardware and software issues.
Assist faculty, professional, and clerical staff with technology troubleshooting.
Support buildings with operating and maintaining equipment.
Install hardware and software as needed.
Promote and support technology integration, new instructional tools, and digital media across the District.
Communicate effectively and professionally with all members of the school community.
Prioritize and execute a variety of complex tasks with minimal supervision.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-time, 12-month position. Salary commensurate with experience and includes a full benefits package.
