Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved bythe RI Department of Education (RIDE). Two (2) exceptions to this particularqualification: a.

Those with certification as a TA in another state,b. Those with an associate degree or bachelor's degree AND whohave completed coursework or other training consistent withthe teacher assistant program standards3. Meet one (1) of the following requirements: a. Successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment.

ORb. Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of highereducation ORc. Obtain an associates or higher degree.4. Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification upon hiring.REPORTS TO: Building Administrator/Director of Pupil PersonnelJOB GOAL: To provide 1:1 instructional, physical, social-emotional, behavioral and other directsupport and services to students with disabilities under the supervision and direction of certifiedstaff.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TEACHER ASSISTANT -Special Education II: 1.

Communicates high and clear expectations for students.2. Fosters independence and grit in all learners.3. Implements instructional and physical supports and at times, behavior interventionstrategies and program changes as directed by the Case Manager and/or relatedservice(s) provider as decided upon by the team.4. Assists student(s) with physical tasks and daily living skills such as eating and drinking,putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the bathroom,washing hands, changing diapers, etc.5.

Collects skill acquisition data.6. Maintains CPI certification.7. Completes Medicaid logs as directed for individual students.8. Establishes a supportive relationship with students with disabilities while fosteringstudent independence.9.

Collaborates with general education teachers, special education teachers and relatedservice providers to address strengths and needs of students with disabilities.10. Participates in professional learning activities.11. Exhibits attributes of reliable attendance, promptness, dependability, and professionalethics; Uses effective communication skills with students and colleagues, (spoken,written and non-verbal); Completes all requested forms, and data collections in anaccurate and timely manner; Perform the functions of the position in accordance withthe: RI Teacher Assistant Standards; RI Professional Code of Conduct; and all laws,regulations, school district policies, directives, the mission of the district, school-basedplans, and administrative priorities / requests.12. Performs other duties as may be assigned and/or necessary to perform the functions ofthe position.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Required vision abilities include close vision and the abilityto adjust focus. The employee is also required to move fromlocation to location, lift items weighing up to 30 pounds, and engage in hands-on physicalrestraints following CPI.
