Software Engineer — Medical Device Startup
Location: Sunnyvale, CA (4 days onsite) | Employment Type: Full-Time
Our client is a well-funded medical device startup building a next-generation ultrasound system that combines advanced electronics, signal processing, and system-level design to deliver a transformative imaging and therapy solution for prostate care. The team operates at the intersection of hardware and software, building systems that enable precise treatments with better patient outcomes, and is heading toward first-in-human trials within the next year.
We're hiring a Software Engineer to support both application software development and manufacturing testing systems for our ultrasound platform. The role will initially focus on building and stabilizing application-layer software, then transition into developing acoustic and electrical testing software used in manufacturing and validation environments. This is a highly cross-functional role working closely with hardware, systems, and engineering teams, with real opportunity to grow into ownership of testing systems as the company scales.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain application-level software supporting medical device functionality
- Design and build manufacturing test software for acoustic and electrical validation
- Integrate software with lab equipment and hardware systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally to gather requirements and translate into solutions
- Contribute to software architecture and system design decisions
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software interaction issues
- Support improvements in test automation and system reliability
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's 3 years OR Master's 2 years in a relevant field
- Experience in the medical device industry
- Experience with Qt/PyQt
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP)
- Experience with Git version control
- Experience with GitHub and continuous integration
- Experience working with hardware-integrated or lab-based systems
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and collaborate effectively
Preferred:
- Exposure to testing frameworks or automation
- Familiarity with C/C , multithreading, or systems programming
- Experience in medical devices or regulated environment
