What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quantum Application Scientist position at Barrington James?
Your Mission
Our client, a pioneering company at the forefront of quantum computing, is looking for passionate and talented Application Scientists to support the development of industrial-scale quantum computers in close collaboration with leading research institutions and industry partners.
They specialize in delivering advanced quantum control stacks that generate the precise analog signals necessary for controlling and reading out superconducting and spin qubits.
As part of their growing team, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between experimental quantum research and scalable real-world applications. If you're a hands-on scientist with a background in experimental quantum computing, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a fast-evolving field.
What You’ll Do
- Demonstrate the capabilities of our client’s quantum control solutions in internal field labs (including cryogenic setups with superconducting and spin qubits) and at customer sites.
- Establish and nurture relationships with customers engaged in quantum research and development, including projects focused on scaling, error correction, and early-stage experimentation.
- Co-author white papers and scientific publications in collaboration with the internal team and external partners.
- Represent our client at global conferences and travel internationally for customer visits and field support.
- Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to enhance the user experience of the company’s tools and products.
- Support the Quantum Success team with training, onboarding, and long-term customer success.
- Contribute to sales activities and account strategy with the sales engineering team.
- Assist the marketing team in developing technical marketing materials such as website content and promotional videos.
Who You Are
We’re looking for a dynamic scientist who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative spirit. Ideal candidates will have:
- Green Card Holder or US Citizen (No Sponsorship provided)
- A PhD in physics or a related field, with a focus on experimental quantum computing using superconducting or spin qubits.
- Hands-on experience working with quantum experiments and lab setups involving RF, microwave, and DC equipment, as well as cryostats and qubit processors.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- A curious and proactive mindset, with a willingness to stay updated on the latest scientific literature and quantum technologies.
- An affinity for sales, marketing, and customer-facing work (experience in these areas is a plus).
- Charismatic, energetic, and comfortable representing the company at external events.
- Fluency in professional English.
