Position Summary
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral and instructional support to students under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or other qualified professional. The RBT assists in implementing individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill-acquisition programs that help students succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally within the school setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement individualized behavior intervention plans and instructional programs as designed by the supervising BCBA.
- Collect, record, and summarize behavioral and skill data accurately and consistently.
- Support students in developing communication, social, self-management, and adaptive skills across school environments (classroom, cafeteria, playground, etc.).
- Use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles to encourage positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and support staff to promote consistency and success in student programs.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and supervision sessions as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and follow district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Adhere to the ethical and professional standards outlined by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
Preferred:
- Experience working in educational settings with students who have developmental, behavioral, or emotional needs.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, applied behavior analysis, or a related field.
Supervision and Reporting
- Works under the direct supervision of a BCBA or qualified designee.
- Receives general direction from school administrators and/or special education supervisors.
Work Year and Contract
- Contract: School-year position (follows the district’s academic calendar).
- Work Schedule: [e.g., Monday–Friday, during student instructional hours].
- Employment Type: Classified/Non-Exempt (as designated by district policy).
