To manage activities that maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment to support the research, development and testing functions of the chemists and microbiologists in the analytical chemistry and microbiology laboratories.
The duties include managing lab supplies inventories, cleaning and preparing lab apparatus for use by analysts, preparing microbiological media, discarding lab-generated waste, preparing samples for testing, conducting routine quality checks of lab equipment (including, but not limited to, media prep equipment, incubators, eye wash stations, autoclaves), and maintaining quality control documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains the supplies and equipment in the Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry Labs in a safe and organized manner, including the handling of hazardous or dangerous materials and equipment as required.
Monitors inventory of reagents, media and lab supplies to generate order lists.
Under general supervision of Analytical Chemistry Lab Manager:
- Maintains clean and organized working environment in the Analytical Chemistry Lab.
- Receives, responsibly manages, and stores lab supplies.
- Follows and maintains proper chemical waste handling and disposal procedures;
- Maintains good housekeeping and safety in the laboratory.
- Cleans laboratory glassware and other equipment used for analysis.
- Monitors the lab’s inventory of consumables and reagents to ensure that the lab has sufficient supplies to maintain the lab’s testing schedule.
Adheres to Microban SOPs and protocols to prepare samples and operate instrumentation.
Assists in sample preparation for testing: cutting, weighing, and any other activities.
