What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Paralegal position at Barnds Law?
About Us & The Opportunity
Are you a compassionate legal professional with a steady hand and a kind heart? We are seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our dedicated team in Overland Park.
Family law is more than just paperwork; it’s about helping people navigate some of the most difficult transitions of their lives. We need a partner who can provide structure, clarity, and support to our attorneys and our clients. If you are looking for a firm that values emotional intelligence as much as legal expertise, you belong here.
What You Will Do (Your Mission)
You will be the calm in the storm, managing the case flow and ensuring our clients feel heard and supported every step of the way.
- Draft the Path Forward: Prepare essential legal documents, including Petitions for Dissolution, Motions, Judgments, and Parenting Plans with precision and care. It is important that your strengths include details and precision in drafting.
- Uncover the Details: Manage the Discovery process from start to finish—drafting Interrogatories, Requests for Production, and organizing complex financial disclosures.
- Be the Client's Compass: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients who are often going through high-stress situations. You’ll provide updates, gather information, and offer a reassuring presence.
**If you don’t know the answer to a question, that’s ok, we reassure the clients and let them know we will find out an answer and respond promptly**
- Prepare for the Big Day: Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, preparing witness binders, and managing court calendars and deadlines.
Who You Are:
- The Expert: You have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience specifically in Family Law (Divorce, Custody, Support, Adoptions, Guardianships).
- The Empathetic Pro: You understand that our clients are people first. You can handle sensitive topics with grace, patience, and absolute confidentiality.
- The Organizer: You love a good checklist. Deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements are second nature to you. No anxiety, this is your wheelhouse.
- Attonrey organization: This person is not only organized herself but can organize and provide structure to other attonreys.
- The Tech-Savvy: You are proficient with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, Simplifile, Eflex, Odessey, Google Calendar, Calendly) and Microsoft Office.
- The Communicator: You can explain complex legal steps in simple, human terms.
