What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seed Research Technician position at BARKLEY SEED INC?
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Seed Research Technician will be responsible for assisting the seed research program in efforts to create superior processing varieties and supporting targeted goals and quality seeds. This position reports to 2nd Nature Product Development Director.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Prepare laboratory samples for analysis following proper protocols to ensure that they will be stored, prepared, and disposed of efficiently and effectively
· Set up laboratory or field equipment as required for site testing
· Measure or weigh ingredients used in laboratory testing
· Collect leaf tissue samples
· Perform tests on seed to evaluate seed viability and other items of interest
· Test quality of material or finished product
· Maintain laboratory or technical equipment
· Perform tests on seed to evaluate seed viability and other items of interest
· Clean and mill small grains
· Record research or operational data
· Perform general nursery duties, such as propagating varieties, collecting and germinating seeds maintaining plants
· Follow all company policies and procedures

Qualifications:EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING:
· High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
· At least two (2) years comparable experience in seed industry is desirable
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Demonstrated knowledge of good laboratory techniques
· Demonstrated computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· May by required to work in outside weather conditions
· Flexibility to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time
· Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Work in a fast-paced environment with rapid hand and eye coordination
· Lab environment, as well as outside work. Outside work includes work in nursery and in the field
· Able to operate standard office equipment
