Job Summary

An upscale, chef-driven restaurant in Santa Barbara is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our leadership team. We are a contemporary American restaurant committed to thoughtful cuisine, exceptional hospitality, and a disciplined, collaborative kitchen culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead dinner service alongside the Chef de Cuisine, including managing the expo station and maintaining service standards.
  • Oversee daily prep production and ensure readiness for service.
  • Manage daily ordering and inventory needs.
  • Train, mentor, and develop line cooks and prep cooks.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and efficiency throughout the kitchen.
  • Uphold recipe standards, plating consistency, and systems execution.
  • Foster a calm, disciplined, and professional work environment.
  • Assist with scheduling, communication, and operational initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of professional restaurant experience.
  • Prior kitchen management or supervisory experience required.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to consistency, accountability, and high standards.
  • Passion for hospitality and professional growth.
  • Ability to speak English and Spanish is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $71,000 annually, plus tips.
  • Typical schedule of approximately 50–55 hours per week.
  • Two weeks paid vacation.

Schedule

  • Full-time, salaried position.
  • Nights and weekends required.
  • Restaurant operates seven days per week.
