The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Shop Lead oversees daily shop operations, ensuring all equipment is serviced safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This is a hands-on leadership role that empowers and mentors maintenance technicians, drives process improvements, and implements strategies to maximize uptime, reduce costs, and extend equipment life. Serving as the primary link between the maintenance team and the Fleet Manager, the Shop Lead facilitates communication and aligns workflows to support fleet readiness and overall operational success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, prioritize, and track all repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.
- Assign work orders, monitor progress, and provide technical support to maintenance technicians.
- Coordinate shop and field repairs to minimize equipment downtime and meet operational needs.
- Proactively manage inventory and resources to prevent maintenance delays.
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards.
- Develop and optimize preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and reports.
- Monitor repair costs, invoices, and warranty recovery to support cost control.
REQUIREMENTS
- 3 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, including at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance workflows, work order systems, and repair scheduling.
- Experience coordinating technician assignments, shop and field repairs, parts, vendors, and warranties.
- Knowledge of repair costs, cost control, invoice tracking, and basic department expense management.
- Comfortable using computers, tablets, and maintenance systems; HCSS E360 or similar experience preferred.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment.
- Must be 18 years or older to be considered for this position.
- Required to have a reliable form of transportation to and from work.
