What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Extern- ICU position at Baptist Memorial Health Care?
A Nurse Extern is an auxiliary person enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and is employed to only the specific nursing activities and procedures listed on the Clinical Skills Check List that have been covered in theory or clinical experience and approved by the school of nursing representative. All skills are performed under the supervision of an RN preceptor.

- Graduate of accredited high school
- Must have successfully completed one academic year or two clinical semesters of clinical courses in nursing.
- Must enroll in an approved Mississippi Summer Student Nurse Externship course for the Summer 2026 term
- Must be enrolled in an accredited school of nursing program affiliated with BMH-Oktibbeha County and maintain good academic standing
- Experience obtained in a school of nursing program.
- Current BLS certification required
- Maintains good physical and emotional health.
- Gives evidence of knowledge and ability to use proper channels of communication.
- Is able to remain calm and function under stress.
- Demonstrates ability and cooperation in rotation of shift and/or duty areas.
- Promotes harmonious inter-and intra-departmental relationships.
- Exhibits professional accountability.
