Summary: The Respiratory Care Mentor shall be tasked to develop and implement a model for mentorship for respiratory care The Mentor will serve as a role model, leader, consultant, collaborator, educator, and clinician. The Mentor shall collaborate with department Educators, Preceptors, and Leadership to assess the needs of clinical respiratory therapists. This individual shall participate in the delivery of new clinical staff orientation. As a member of the Respiratory team, the Mentor will establish a setting that supports professional respiratory care practice and empowers therapists to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient care in collaboration with all healthcare disciplines. This individual will make rounds to meet with clinical therapists to provide guidance and oversee less experienced therapists and to help facilitate their career development while providing training to aspiring therapists, respiratory students, or licensed staff to help ensure provision of safe care and ease transition from advanced beginner to competent clinical therapist. The Mentor shall prepare and deliver respiratory-related education lectures and case studies to assigned therapists. Additionally, the Mentor will provide patient care in areas where needed to assist the team. The Mentor will also collaborate with leadership to determine other necessary functions which will optimize patient outcomes and mentorship for the respiratory team. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.
Education/Experience
Degree in Respiratory Care required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, Master’s degree highly preferred. Minimum 5 years’ recent critical care experience required. Previous NICU experience required or obtained within a year. Previous teaching experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Active ASBRT LRT required, NBRC RRT required, NBRC ACCS preferred, BLS required, additional certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc) may be required depending upon area assigned.
