Typical Calendar Days Per Year: Seasonal (Winter Sports Season and Off-Season Responsibilities as Assigned)

Position Overview
The Assistant Middle School Girls Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a positive, competitive, and student-centered basketball program aligned with the mission and values of Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy.
This role focuses on helping student-athletes develop fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, confidence, and character in a supportive and structured environment. The Assistant Coach plays an important role in practices, games, and overall program culture.

Core Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program Support and Player Development
- Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the middle school girls basketball program
- Support planning and implementation of structured, developmentally appropriate practices
- Teach and reinforce basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Provide encouragement, feedback, and mentorship to student-athletes
- Help promote accountability, discipline, and positive team culture
- Support skill development and off-season opportunities as assigned
Game and Competition Support
- Assist with coaching and supervision during games, scrimmages, and tournaments
- Support warm-ups, in-game adjustments, and sideline management
- Help ensure athletes are prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally for competition
- Model professionalism and sportsmanship at all times
- Follow all league rules, school policies, and coaching expectations
Student-Athlete Support
- Encourage academic success and positive behavior in student-athletes
- Assist in monitoring attendance, eligibility, and conduct expectations
- Build supportive relationships with athletes while maintaining high expectations
- Promote leadership, resilience, teamwork, and personal growth
- Prioritize student safety and well-being during all practices, games, and travel
Communication and Family Engagement
- Maintain respectful and professional communication with athletes, families, and staff
- Assist in communicating schedules, expectations, and program updates
- Address concerns collaboratively and appropriately through coaching channels
- Represent the school and athletic program positively in the community
Operations and Program Assistance
- Assist with setup, organization, and care of equipment and uniforms
- Help maintain a safe, organized gym and practice environment
- Support logistics for practices, games, and team events as assigned
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic department events
- Support the Head Coach and Athletic Director with additional program needs
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations
- Criminal background check required for hire
- Valid Colorado driver’s license preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- Completion of required coaching certifications and trainings
- Concussion training certification required
Other Work Factors
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, demonstrate athletic movements, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and communicate. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a gymnasium and school athletic environment, with occasional travel for games and tournaments.
Mental Functions
The employee is regularly required to communicate, instruct, analyze, coordinate, evaluate, problem solve, and use strong interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Previous basketball playing and/or coaching experience at the middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level preferred
- Ability to pass a background check (required)
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, techniques, and game strategy
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Commitment to sportsmanship, character development, and student-athlete success
- Ability to work collaboratively with coaching staff, students, and families
- Must meet league and school coaching requirements

Compensation and Benefits
This position includes a seasonal coaching stipend based on experience and program assignment. Additional professional development and coaching support opportunities may be available through the athletic department.
