Scope of Job:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting related activities impacting the financial statements of the Organization. This position is responsible for the establishment and management of accounting standards and practices ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger and related financial reports for the Bank and its non-banking units, including Trust, Brokerage, Abstract and Insurance. The Accounting Manager is also accountable to ensure that defined, effective internal controls are in place; supporting the integrity of financial reporting in compliance with risk, internal/external audit, and regulatory requirements. This position requires discipline and a focused mindset coupled with the ability to manage diverse day-to-day accounting impacts across the Organization. An effective ability to collaborate, solve problems, and clearly communicate with Managers, Auditors, and Examiners is critical.

 

Primary Duties:

Responsible for the day-to-day management, staffing, administration, and related support for the assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Selects, trains, coaches, and develops subordinates in accordance with BankWest philosophies and policies; schedules and manages staffing ensuring work completion and delivery of related customer service requirements; ensures compliance with BankWest policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsible for the financial integrity of the general ledger. This includes maintaining the chart of accounts and changes that may be needed to the general ledger as requested by management or required by regulation.

Responsible to ensure all automated and manual general ledger entries are made accurately and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. (GAAP) Accountable to develop and execute standards related to accounting practices and financial reporting.

Responsible for managing the monthly accounting close process, providing timely reporting and communication with Management throughout each month and at month-end. Work to research and resolve income statement and balance sheet inquiries by Management.

Accountable for the development and maintenance of internal controls for the Bank and its non-bank units. Collaborate with Internal and External Audit experts to ensure compliance with FDICIA internal control requirements and other related finance internal controls. Provide expertise and support throughout the External Audit, Regulatory, and Compliance exam processes.

Accountable to manage the Account Reconcilement function for all areas of the Bank and non-bank units. Manage to achieve an on-time and accurate reconciliation process for general ledger accounts, as well as individual and consolidated Balance Sheet and Income Statements for the non-bank units; in full compliance with established internal controls.

In coordination with the external tax accountant, create and maintain an internal tax calculation projection for current period, as well as deferred tax expense to ensure proper amounts are accrued.

 

Secondary Duties:

Act in a leadership capacity, providing relevant expertise and counsel; actively supporting work and employee development activities of the Bank.

Provide audit assistance to external auditors or examiners in order to expedite their examinations.

Work as a team with departmental counterparts on planning and implementing assigned projects and products.

Participate on various committees and project teams as deemed appropriate by management.

Attend, actively participate in organization, job specific training offered, and Quality Service programs.

Adhere to all applicable Policies and Procedures of BankWest organization.

Community involvement is strongly encouraged.

Requirements

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

MBA, CPA, or equivalent graduate level degree in a related field preferred.

Applicable experience and/or related certifications may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience:

10 year's progressive management experience in related field.

Experience in accounting or finance, including budget experience or expertise and extensive use of spreadsheets.

 

Knowledge and Special Skills:

Ability to work dependently and/or independently, under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust work schedules as needed to complete job responsibilities.

Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with external and/or internal customers.

Knowledge of bank compliance, regulation, and laws governing bank operations.

Knowledge of bank call reports.

Knowledge of banking terminology and procedures.

Knowledge of financial statements.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP).

Knowledge of bank asset/liability management.

Adhere to Federal Privacy Standards in addition to following BankWest requirements for electronic communication and Social Engineering standards.
