POSITION SUMMARY
The Bookkeeper/Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with California gaming regulations for a Tier 3 card room. This position supports the General Manager and Cage Department by reconciling daily transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring that all accounting functions are performed in accordance with state and local gaming laws. This is an on-site position that requires working in person at the casino premises; remote work is not permitted due to regulatory and operational requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain general ledger and record all accounting transactions accurately and timely.
· Reconcile daily cage balances, vault cash, and chip inventory reports.
· Prepare and post daily journal entries and revenue summaries.
· Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and cash club reports.
· Assist Cage and Poker Room operations with Title 31 documentation review and reporting compliance.
· Maintain a detailed and up-to-date spreadsheet tracking all jackpot progressive and poker jackpot collections, associated administrative fees, and records of when jackpots are hit. Ensure this spreadsheet is always current and ready for California Department of Justice (DOJ) review upon request.
· Share copies of all jackpot progressive and poker jackpot tracking spreadsheets with the Compliance Officer for transparency and in case of DOJ requests, as only the General Manager and Compliance Officer are authorized to communicate directly with DOJ representatives.
· Maintain Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable ledgers.
· Prepare and file required state gaming tax and business reports (e.g., BOE, CDTFA, FTB).
· Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for management review.
· Support audit preparation and provide documentation to external auditors or city inspectors.
· Verify compliance with internal controls and state-mandated accounting procedures.
· Maintain accurate records for promotional payouts, customer credit, and player bank transactions.
· Support purchasing and inventory control for administrative and gaming supplies.
· Maintain confidentiality of all financial and player data in accordance with Title 31 and company policy.
· Perform additional accounting or administrative tasks as assigned by the General Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
· Education: Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
· Experience: Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a casino, hospitality, or regulated cash-handling environment.
· Licensing: Must be able to obtain and maintain an active City Card Room Work Permit (City of Salinas or applicable jurisdiction).
· Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and other accounting software. Ability to prepare and reconcile financial statements. Strong math and analytical skills.
· Other Requirements: Ability to maintain accuracy under pressure and meet strict deadlines. High attention to detail and integrity in handling cash and confidential information. Ability to communicate effectively with Cage, Poker Room, and Management teams. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Availability to work occasional weekends for audits or month-end close as needed.
