What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Compliance Officer position at Bank of Ocean City?
Basic Function: Under the supervision of the SVP, administer the Bank’s Compliance Management System (CMS), to ensure the financial institution’s compliance with laws, regulations and rules governing operations and product offerings.
Essential Duties:
- Customer Service:
- Consistently deliver outstanding customer service, anticipating customer needs and going above and beyond to ensure a seamless and memorable experience.
- Regulatory Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure the Bank’s CMS (Compliance Management System) meets regulatory requirements while enhancing organizational performance.
- Research federal and state banking laws and regulations, review the Bank’s policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Manage the Bank’s updates to policies and procedures to implement new or revised federal, state, or local laws or regulations.
- Oversee the development and updating of corporate compliance policies and procedures; ensure policies accurately and effectively communicate legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements while aligning with internal policies and ethical standards.
3. Governance & Committee Management:
- Manage the Bank’s Compliance Committee.
- Provide financial institution management with information to accurately determine the institution’s extent of compliance.
- Schedule and lead meetings with departments and supervisors, as necessary, to communicate compliance changes that impact operations.
4. Compliance Training & Education:
- Develop and administer the Bank’s compliance training program.
- Provide advice and direction to Bank management on operational issues impacting regulatory compliance.
- Ensure compliance with Bank policies and procedures, as well as Federal banking laws, rules and regulations, including, but not limited to: monitoring for OFAC, adhering to BSA/AML/OFAC/CIP policies and procedures.
- Information Security Compliance – Actively contribute to the protection of confidential information, data, and systems. Adhere to established security protocols, remain alert for suspicious emails, message or links, and promptly report any suspected phishing attempts to the designated security contact.
5. Monitoring & Reviews:
- Develop and execute the Bank’s schedule for second-line compliance reviews.
- Administer the Bank’s complaint program.
6. Marketing & Communications Compliance:
- Review and approve marketing materials to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree plus four years of experience in a financial institution, including familiarity with deposit and/or lending regulations;
- A minimum of eight years of experience in a financial institution, including familiarity with deposit and/or lending regulations.
- Compliance-related certification (CRCM or CCBCO) preferred
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Sitting/Standing/Walking: Approximately 75% or more of time is spent working at a desk. Balance of time (25%, or “occasionally”) is spent moving around work areas. Ability to traverse one or more flights of stairs may be required.
- Speaking/Hearing: Clear dictation and acute hearing are necessary for effective and frequent (up to 75% of work time) communication with co-workers, customers, and outside agencies, by telephone and in person.
- Vision: Ability to effectively use a computer screen and to interpret printed materials, memos and other appropriate paperwork, 75% or more of work time.
- Lifting/Carrying: The ability to transport files, office supplies, and lifting up to a weight of 35 lbs. and occasionally, up to 50 lbs.
- Stooping/Kneeling: The ability to access files and supplies, with occasional stooping or kneeling.
Salary Range: $50,000 to $65,000 annually
