Position Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating technical aspects of projects within the Plutonium Facility (PF-4) at Los Alamos National Laboratory from initiation through closeout. This role engages with customers, engineers, and subject matter experts to define project scope, develop technical solutions, and ensure designs meet operational needs while enhancing facility performance and reliability. The Project Engineer facilitates design development, review, and implementation, working closely with construction and work execution teams while managing design changes and ensuring alignment with project objectives. Throughout the project lifecycle, the role ensures high-quality technical documentation, supports successful project delivery, and contributes to mission-critical nuclear facility operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop project scope, Statements of Need, and technical solutions.
- Coordinate with design, system, and subject matter experts.
- Lead design development, review, and implementation activities.
- Manage change control and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Oversee project closeout, including documentation and final deliverables
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to job functions.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents to management.
- Participate in required training sessions and safety briefings.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work through problems quickly and effectively and define a clear path to resolution
