District Position Description 

 

Position Title: School Psychologist

Department: Special Education

Reports To: Director of Student Services

 

Position Open Until Filled.

 

Qualifications:

A valid state certificate.

A Master's Degree plus 30 hours.

A one-year internship as a school psychologist.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Job Goal: Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.

 

Performance Responsibilities: .

  • Conducts psychological and psychoeducational evaluations of students referred for assessment services;
  •  Conducts staffing meetings to include IEP team members that determine appropriate placement of students;

  • Consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, administers, and outside personnel to facilitate students’ learning, and promote social-emotional adjustment through direct or indirect intervention strategies;

  • Makes recommendations for instructional programming based on theoretical models of school psychology;

  • Serves as liaison with outside agencies and service providers;

  • Plans and conducts parent seminars and workshops, staff development, and related training as directed by the Director of Special Services;

  • Prepares and submits accurate and complete documentation of all assigned cases;

  • Attends hearings and other meetings as required;

  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from staff, parents, medical personnel, and students regarding psychological services;

  • Performs various office duties as necessary, including preparing reports, and correspondence, compiling information, and data for reports, attending meetings, etc.;

  • Serves on appropriate school-based or district level committees involving services for students with disabilities;

  • Develops instructional and behavior interventions and monitors progress for individuals and groups of students;

  • Interprets the school psychological services to school personnel and parents; confers with teachers and parents as appropriate;

  • Serves as a consultant on mental health issues to the schools;

  •  Reviews and evaluates IEP’s when required by the Director of Special Services;

  •  Observes and assists in special education classes;

  • Receives and reviews student records, medical records, IEP’s, test results, screening information, referrals, psychological reports, etc.;

  • Participates in required training (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned;

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.

Occasional travel and/or overnight travel may be required.

 

Term of Employment: The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time employment during an entire school year. 

 

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy.
