Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week. 

A full-time, non-merit vacancy, with full County benefits, exists in the Circuit Court of Baltimore County.

Definition of Responsibility

Under the direction of the Family Law Manager, the Assistant Family Case Manager serves as first line supervisor of family DCM staff and assistant to the Family Law Manager. Ensures the efficient operation of all Family Differentiated Case Management functions by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing established procedures and policies. Exercises a high degree of independence, judgment, and discretion in administrative management, case flow, and staff supervision.


Essential Job Duties

Coordinates and supervises staff by organizing, assigning, and monitoring workflow to ensure efficient office operations. Oversees staffing coverage for court dockets and office functions,
ensuring work is completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and the
expectations of the bench. Monitors productivity, provides and ensures the timely and accurate
completion of assignments and case management responsibilities.

Preserves and reviews recordings of scheduling conferences to ensure quality control, procedural
compliance, and accurate recordkeeping. Schedules and manages all remote scheduling conference
dockets, including Zoom set-up and maintenance of the magistrates’ calendar. Monitors and
manages DCM task queues. Generates and distributes to staff weekly report. Analyzes monthly
report. Serves as liaison among family magistrates, attorneys, court personnel, agencies, the
Clerk’s Office, and the public regarding case status, scheduling matters, and court procedures.
Processes and manages employee attendance, timesheets and leave requests in Workday.
Maintains inventory and orders supplies for the DCM office. Provides backup coverage for DCM
office when necessary to ensure continuity of operations and customer service.

Reviews work performed by staff to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with established
policies, procedures, and court standards. Delivers on-going performance feedback and addresses
employee attendance, conduct, and corrective actions. Resolves workplace and customer conflicts
involving employees, litigants, attorneys, agencies, and other stakeholders, escalating matters to
the Family Law Manager when appropriate. Coordinates and oversees training of new employees,
ensuring proficiency in all assigned duties and responsibilities. Manages cross-training to enhance
staff knowledge, operational flexibility, and continuity of services. Collaborates with the Family
Law Manager to review legislative changes, court rules, and policy updates, and assists in
implementing necessary procedural modifications within the office. Assists the Family Law
Manager with all aspects of case management operations, including workflow management,
procedural compliance, and staff support. Other duties as assigned.

Examples of Other Duties 
  • Performs other assigned duties or tasks as required.

High school diploma plus seven years of experience in a legal environment

or 

Associate’s degree plus five years of experience in a legal environment.

Paralegal training and experience 
Supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of court procedures; exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy, and competence in dealing with judges, magistrates, public officials, the public and professional personnel. 
  • Able to use discretion in matters of confidentiality. 
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of legal terminology, forms, methods, and procedures. 
  • Should have knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook for email and calendar schedules, and web browsers such as Microsoft Edge and/or Google Chrome. 
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Justice, File & Serve, Teams and Zoom strongly preferred. 
  • The ideal candidate will work well independently while also interacting well with colleagues and “knowing what they don’t know” – recognizing the limits of their expertise and when input from a supervisor is needed. 
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on new challenges will be critical.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes. This position is a non-merit unclassified position with the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and is subject to the personnel policies and procedures adopted by the Court.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, lifting of boxes, or other limited physical activities.

Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete an employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education, and fingerprinting checks.

Salary : $45,000 - $64,524
