Definition of Responsibility
The Jury Assistant assists the Jury Commissioner and the Assistant Jury Commissioner in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and ensures that efficient operations and procedures are implemented and followed in the Jury Commissioner’s Office.Essential Job Duties
The Jury Assistant performs a variety of duties that are assigned on a daily basis which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Entering information into the data base regarding prospective Petit and Grand Jurors and answering telephone inquiries about reporting procedures and requirements;
Assisting in the orientation and “checking-in” of new jurors by maintaining attendance and payment records;
Coordinating with judges, court staff, and assignment personnel regarding the preparation and organization of jury panels needed for court (voir dire); and
Maintaining files and records in the Jury Commissioner’s Office. Some public speaking may be required on a routine basis. The Assistant may also help in the preparation of financial reports and monthly management data related to juror service and utilization. Incumbents will assist the Jury Commissioner generally in the requisition of supplies for summonses and other office related materials.

Associate's degree, plus one year clerical, secretarial or office administration experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of court procedures and the ability to apply them accurately in daily work.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy, and professionalism when interacting with judges, public officials, attorneys, the public, and other professional personnel.
- Working knowledge of legal terminology, legal forms, methods, and procedural requirements used in court and administrative processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word or comparable word-processing software, including the ability to prepare, edit, and format documents accurately.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes. This position is a non-merit unclassified position with the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and is subject to the personnel policies and procedures adopted by the Court.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, lifting of boxes, or other limited physical activities.
