Pay Schedule VI, Grade 32, 40 hours per week
A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Highways & Equipment Maintenance.A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Definition of Responsibility
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and directs highway construction and maintenance activities in an assigned region of the County.
Examples of Essential Duties
Prepares, reviews, and assigns work orders to crew chiefs. Performs field inspections of work sites to assure conformity to established standards. Coordinates work among the crews. Reviews plans and drawings for highway construction, repair, and maintenance work.
Develops, institutes, and modifies operating procedures and methods. Analyzes productivity and efficiency of regional work. Assists in the development of long range plans and projects for the Bureau.
Provides technical guidance to agency staff. Receives and responds to complaints and requests for service from the public. Meets with the public to resolve issues and answer questions regarding Bureau projects.
Schedules and coordinates the maintenance of equipment. Provides direct supervision to crews engaged in new, difficult, or unusual assignments.
Prepares reports and maintains records of section activities. Investigates jobsite accidents.
Coordinates the Bureau's activities with other County agencies.

Required Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent

Six years' experience in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roadways, two years of which were in a supervisory capacity.
(Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Additional education in engineering, management, or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience.)
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Applicants who hold a driver’s license from a state other than Maryland or Pennsylvania must submit a current copy of their driver’s license and driving record at the time of application. Failure to provide this documentation will result in your application not being considered.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification includes field work and travel to worksites throughout the County.
