A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Transportation.

Examples of Duties

Definition of Responsibility
Under general supervision, oversees, facilitates, and coordinates traffic safety projects within the Department of Public Works and Transportation.

  • Knowledge of highway safety analysis, roadway design, safety plans, and safety recommendation development.
  • Reduce the risk for severe injury or fatal crashes.
  • Facilitates, coordinates, and manages traffic safety projects from development to implementation.
  • Informs citizens of traffic safety initiatives and requirements. Resolves problems that delay or interrupt the process and expedites projects.
  • Manages projects to assure consistency and conformance to safety standards. Works with other County agencies to set and maintain deadlines and schedules.
  • Leads and promotes educational, compliance or regulatory programs.
  • Conducts traffic safety needs assessments to identify problems and priorities to be addressed through grant programs.
  • Coordinates with local, state and federal stakeholders with the goal of implementing the Strategic Highway Safety Plan and Vision Zero Initiatives.
  • Represents the County at public conferences and meetings with external agencies and citizens. Schedules, coordinates, facilitates, and moderates Community Meetings.
  • Provides analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree

PLUS

Three years' professional experience in planning, zoning, or development management.

Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Preferred Experience
Professional experience in traffic safety planning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of traffic safety.
Must possess working knowledge of traffic control devices.
Ability to analyze problems in traffic safety and develop effective solutions.
Ability to develop mobility solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.
Ability to support policy and design guidance documents for traffic, technology, and control devices.


Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.

Health Insurance

Employees may elect basic term life insurance for themselves equal to one time the employee's annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000. Employees contribute a portion of the premium through monthly payroll deductions. The County also offers an Additional/Employee paid Life Insurance plan with coverage up to $100,000.

Retirement
Employees are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System (ERS), with very limited exceptions.
