What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2026 Summer School - IEP Chair - Early Learning Programs position at Baltimore City Public Schools?
Facilitates discussion during the Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and Child Find meetings between team members and families , to help develop the most appropriate educational plan for a child. Discusses parent concerns to determine eligibility for Child Find and the need for further testing . Discusses the transition process between Infants and Toddlers (Part C) and City School (Part B) services, and the Family Choice option. IEP Team Chairs explain the continuum of services available through City Schools to assist parents in their Family Choice decision. Appropriately documents the team discussions and outcomes, and ensures that the meetings and documentation meet all legal and best-practice standards.

Essential Functions
- Ensures that the parents feel?their concerns are being addressed and that?they are an integral part of the IEP process.??
- Helps?facilitate?discussion with parents and team members to fully?understand?the child's strengths and needs.?
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
- Discusses?the transition out of Infants and Toddlers, and the continuum of services available through City Schools for three-and-four-year old?children, ?to help?families?understand?the differences between Part C services and Part B services.?
- Discusses parent referral to Child Find and concerns during the initial child-find meeting.
- Assists?the team to develop, adapt, ?modify?and individualize?any recommended?educational?plans and services?to meet the needs of students with disabilities.?
- Fully and accurately documents?the meeting discussions in all?appropriate places?on the IEP and Prior Written Notice.?
- Ensures?all legal and best practice requirements are being?utilized?when developing and documenting the IEP.?
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.
- Employee of Baltimore City Public Schools for the 2025-2026 school year, with the intention to remain an employee for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Holds active teacher certification or licensure in Special Education or holds active licensure as an Audiologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker, or Speech Pathologist.
- Excellent?time-management?and organizational?skills.?
- Proficiency?in the use of technical computer applications, including?MD Online, ?Google Suite, ?Microsoft?Office Suite.?
- Possession of all appropriate licenses, certificates, and contracts for the 2026-2027 school year (non-renewals, expired certifications or licenses, separations including retirees will not be considered for summer school employment).
- Acceptable annual rating by school principal/administrator
