Your Mission

Own safety, quality, and flow. You’ll assist Senior Mechanics to fabricate accurate parts, care for equipment, and hit the schedule without compromising craftsmanship. You’ll help where the work is—press brake, shear, material kitting, or tooling changes—and you’ll continually sharpen your skills to become a world-class mechanic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead by example on safety; follow all PPE and safety protocols.
  • Partner with Senior Mechanics to produce parts safely and to spec.
  • Press brake: assist with setups, perform preventive maintenance, program simple parts, and run them confidently.
  • Shear: operate proficiently and complete preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in die and CNC tooling changeovers to enable quick transitions.
  • Manage the drop-off rack to reduce scrap and support material flow.
  • Keep machinery in dependable condition through cleaning and basic care.
  • Achieve daily production goals set by Station/Team Leaders.
  • Top off consumables and supplies as needed.
  • Pursue continuous learning to support top-tier quality performance and first-part verification.
  • Flex to other fabrication areas to support the team and meet demand.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Reporting

Reports to the Station Leader or Team Leader in the Sheet Metal Department, or to a senior Mechanic designated by the Supervisor.

Capabilities and Knowledge
  • Accurate measurement: tape measure and fractional math; micrometers, dial calipers, squares, and protractors.
  • Blueprint/reference drawing comprehension.
  • Comfortable pulling information and recording data in fabrication databases.
  • Familiar with sheet metal quality criteria and General Customer Expectations; able to conduct first-article checks.
  • Safe operation of pallet jacks and jib cranes.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Working knowledge of Lean basics: 5S and the Seven Wastes, with practical application.
  • Thorough knowledge of task-specific safety requirements.
Equipment & Technology
  • Primary machine: Press Brake
  • Additional: CNC tooling
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Standing/walking up to 80% of the shift; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, sitting, and reaching.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Manufacturing setting with elevated noise; temperature variation; intermittent exposure to outdoor conditions near yards and docks.
  • Possible assignment to any of three shifts; typical 40-hour workweeks; some weekend overtime expected.
