Senior GMAW Fabrication Lead, Coil Header Assemblies

Baltimore Aircoil Company - USA
Milford, DE Full Time
POSTED ON 7/16/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/13/2026

Lead the craft. Shape the standard.

Step into a senior, hourly shop role where you set the pace for quality and safety. As a Mechanic I, you coach junior mechanics, execute critical weld and flat-weld assemblies, and model BAC’s values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation. Your purpose is simple and powerful: do the right thing in the right way.

A day in your work boots

You kick off with a safety huddle, gear up, and walk the team through the plan. You read BAC submittals, fabrication sheets, and assembly lists, then head to the table to perform precise cutouts on galvanized and stainless panels using the plasma cutting process. When it is time to make it watertight, you lay down critical corner and connection welds on galvanized and stainless materials using proven MIG procedures. You inspect your own work with a weld gage and inclinometer, keep pace without sacrificing accuracy, and step in for the Station Lead when needed.

Between builds, you mentor Mechanic II and III welders, document best practices, update departmental metrics in Excel, and translate targets like near-miss reporting and FPY goals into daily actions. You keep the 5S rhythm, drive continuous improvement, and support sustainability by reducing waste, maximizing recycling, and minimizing energy and water use. When a cross-functional project needs a subject matter expert, you are ready to contribute.

What you will own

  • Personal and team safety, always using the right PPE and following every rule
  • Interpreting shop documents and engineering drawings to execute plasma cut operations
  • Performing critical MIG welds, including water-tight corner and connection welds on galvanized and stainless
  • Maintaining a steady work pace and top-tier quality while minimizing downtime
  • Training junior mechanics and guiding their performance; providing hands-on leadership when the Station Lead is away
  • Understanding, communicating, and posting department metrics; completing all required paperwork or online entries
  • Documenting processes for knowledge capture and training
  • Championing 5S, continuous improvement, and departmental safety initiatives
  • Driving quality excellence and coaching precise quality practices
  • Contributing to safety, quality, and productivity goals including near-miss and FPY metrics
  • Flexing across workstations and functions to support production needs; performing other duties as assigned

Where you fit in the team

You report to a Team Leader, Station Leader, or designated supervisor. You provide hands-on leadership, mentor junior mechanics, fill in for department leadership when needed, and may support regional project teams as an influencer and subject matter expert.

What you bring

  • Proven ability to lead small groups and mentor peers
  • Clear written communication skills for documenting processes and writing concise, professional emails or memos
  • Confident, professional verbal communication with co-workers and BAC customers
  • Must pass GMAW 6G weld test; oxy-fuel knowledge preferred
  • Fluency in reading blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings
  • Proficiency with MIG welding and plasma cutting processes and equipment
  • Solid math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and fraction-to-decimal conversions
  • Ability to use measuring tools: weld gage, inclinometer, and tape measure
  • Comfort with BAC submittals, fabrication sheets, and assembly lists (BoM’s); able to react to job schedules
  • Identify welding wires and gases for correct applications; understand welding, cutting, and related hazards
  • One year in-department experience preferred
  • Experience with continuous improvement tools and root cause analysis for quality issues
  • Thorough knowledge of machine-operation hazards; unwavering commitment to safety
  • High product knowledge of BAC’s numerous models and parts
  • Excel competency to update data and generate metrics in pre-formatted spreadsheets
  • Flexibility across department workstations; adaptability to change
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and independently
  • Understands and adheres to LEAN principles
