What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automation Technician II position at Baldor Specialty Foods?
Overview:
The Automation Technician II performs higher-level diagnostics, participates in commissioning, updates wiring diagrams, and ensures accurate system performance. This position requires strong electrical and controls knowledge and the ability to handle complex issues independently.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot PLC I/O, sensors, relays, VFDs, servo systems, and field wiring.
- Interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and control diagrams.
- Calibrate and configure instrumentation including scanners, sensors, and control devices.
- Test and validate automation system performance and accuracy.
- Implement preventive/predictive maintenance strategies for controls equipment.
- Perform updates to wiring diagrams, panels, labeling, and documentation.
- Assist in programming adjustments under senior guidance.
- Maintain backup files, test logs, and CMMS updates.
- Respond to automation breakdowns and support rapid restoration.
- Train Automation Tech I team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
- Intermediate proficiency with PLC systems, sensors, and industrial networks.
- Ability to diagnose electrical faults and automation failures.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team environment.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma required or technical degree preferred.
- 3–5 years’ experience in automation/electrical maintenance.
- Familiarity with SCADA, HMIs, and controls communication systems.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, and LOTO.
Certifications Required:
- CAP, CCST, or PLC programming certifications preferred.
- OSHA electrical or NFPA 70E required or obtained within 60 days
Work Environment:
- Must be able to stand for a minimum of 8 hours and maintain active for long periods of time.
- Able to work in cold warehouse environment (36°F – 38°F).
- Ability to stand, crouch and climb to perform repairs, use ladders, and perform various types of manual labor.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
