Overview:

 

The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, leading, and executing the Company's enterprise-wide safety strategy across all manufacturing, warehouse, and corporate operations. This role serves as the senior safety leader and is responsible for fostering a culture where safety is integrated into every aspect of the business.

 

The Director of Safety will partner closely with Operations, Transportation, Human Resources, Facilities, Risk Management, and senior leadership to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations while driving continuous improvement initiatives that reduce workplace injuries, improve employee engagement, and promote operational excellence.

 

This position requires travel to all company locations to ensure consistency in safety standards, conduct site assessments, coach leaders, and support local teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Safety Strategy & Leadership

· Develop and execute the Company's enterprise-wide health and safety strategy.

· Establish long-term safety goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

· Lead initiatives that build a proactive safety culture across all locations.

· Serve as the subject matter expert on occupational health and safety matters.

· Present safety metrics and strategic initiatives to executive leadership.

· Champion safety as a core organizational value throughout the business.

 

Regulatory Compliance

· Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

· Develop, maintain, and continuously improve company safety policies and procedures.

· Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and implement necessary operational changes.

· Coordinate OSHA inspections and responses.

· Maintain required safety documentation and reporting.

 

Injury Prevention & Risk Reduction

· Develop strategies to reduce OSHA recordables, lost-time incidents, workers' compensation claims, and near misses.

· Lead incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies.

· Identify trends through safety analytics and implement corrective actions.

· Oversee hazard assessments, ergonomic evaluations, and risk mitigation plans.

· Develop preventive action plans following incidents.

 

Multi-Site Safety Operations

· Conduct regular safety audits at all manufacturing plants, warehouses, transportation facilities, and corporate offices.

· Standardize safety programs across all locations.

· Ensure consistency in safety expectations regardless of location.

· Evaluate facility-specific risks and develop customized action plans.

· Monitor compliance through routine inspections and scorecards.

 

Leadership Development

· Coach executives, directors, managers, and supervisors on safety leadership.

· Develop safety accountability programs for operational leaders.

· Deliver leadership training focused on incident prevention, hazard recognition, and employee engagement.

· Support managers in conducting effective safety meetings and observations.

 

Training & Employee Engagement

· Develop comprehensive safety training programs for new hires and existing employees.

· Ensure required OSHA and regulatory training is completed.

· Lead annual safety campaigns and awareness initiatives.

· Promote employee participation through safety committees and engagement programs.

· Foster a "See Something, Say Something" culture throughout the organization.

 

Continuous Improvement

· Develop dashboards to monitor leading and lagging safety indicators.

· Benchmark safety performance against industry standards.

· Identify opportunities for process improvement.

 

Requirements:

 

Education

· Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field required.

· Master's degree preferred.

· OSHA 30-Hour Certification.

 

 

Experience

· 10 years of progressive environmental health and safety leadership experience.

· Minimum 5 years leading multi-site safety programs.

· Experience within manufacturing, food manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, logistics, or transportation operations strongly preferred.

· Experience leading safety strategy across multiple states.

· Proven success reducing OSHA recordables and workers' compensation costs.

· Experience developing enterprise safety programs.

 

Preferred Certifications

One or more of the following preferred:

· Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

· Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

· Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
