Summary
The HSE Specialist is responsible for independently managing all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs at our Markleville manufacturing facility, which produces reflective insulation products. This role serves as the site subject‑matter expert for workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship, ensuring a safe, compliant, and proactive safety culture.
Responsibilities
- Site Safety Program Leadership: Independently manage and administer all Health & Safety programs for the Markleville plant. Act as the primary HSE point of contact for the facility. Drive a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, employee involvement, and continuous improvement initiatives. Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and assessments.
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with OSHA, IOSHA (Indiana OSHA), EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Maintain compliance documentation, permits, SDSs, and required records. Lead regulatory inspections, audit, and follow‑up actions. Identify workplace hazards and implement effective corrective and preventive controls.
- Incident Management & Investigation: Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Track safety metrics, trends, and KPIs; prepare reports for site and corporate leadership. Manage workers’ compensation coordination in partnership with HR (as applicable).
- Training, Awareness & Employee Engagement: Develop, coordinate, and deliver HSE training programs, including new-hire safety orientation, OSHA‑required and site‑specific training and Contractor safety training. Support and facilitate safety committees and toolbox talks. Promote employee participation in safety initiatives and hazard reporting.
- Environmental & Sustainability Support: Coordinate site environmental programs, including waste management and environmental compliance requirements. Support environmental reporting and sustainability initiatives as required. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Job Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or related field; or equivalent work experience
- 4 – 5 years of experience in a safety or HSE role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of OSHA / IOSHA regulations, hazard identification, and risk control
- Proven experience conducting incident investigations and safety audits
- Ability to influence and coach employees and leadership at all levels
- Professional certification such as OSHA 30, ASP, CSP, or equivalent (asset)
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, machine guarding, and industrial processes
